Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most significant and celebrated events in India and other parts of the world with a large Hindu population. It is a five-day festival that usually takes place between October and November, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The event involves the lighting of diyas (small clay lamps filled with oil) and candles inside and outside homes, indulging in feasts, exchanging gifts, and decorating homes with rangoli (colorful patterns made on the floor using colored rice, sand, or flower petals). The most important day of the event is the third day, which coincides with the darkest night of the Hindu lunisolar month Kartika. On this day, families gather for Lakshmi puja, a ceremony to invoke the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. Fireworks light up the sky as people celebrate the triumph of light over darkness with joy and enthusiasm.
